The 53 lb Self-Contained Cube Ice Machine – SM 50 Series (SM-50A) by Manitowoc is an excellent choice for self-service ice maker. It automatically refills itself with fresh, filtered ice and perfect for hotels, home bars, clubs and much more. The machine is very quiet and easy to install. The lighted bin makes seeing and scooping ice very easy and automatic ice making mode really helps.
Pros: All undercounter models, as well as several smaller sized independent ice maker heads, come with a cord and plug, Commercial Ice Makers produce the highest quality ice. This is essential to bars and food service operations that strive for high quality.

used to have a Scottsman and this unit in terms of production and ease of making repairs down the road will be a no brainer. Nice to have a filter as well.

The unit looks great and the inside is nice too. Seems to make ice at a good rate. Drawbacks: This unit is VERY loud. My husband can't stand the noise while running. We have had it a week and friends that come over have asked what that loud noise is. We had another ice maker for 16 years and it made noise while running but nothing like this. We our hoping to return the unit. the only other draw back is the scoop on the door is hard to place so it won't fall into the ice. I was so excited to get this machine and sad so to see it go.

I love ice machine ice and hate refrigerator ice. We installed this ice machine in our newly remodeled kitchen. I was hesitant about the octagon-shaped cube and worried about the noise level. In both cases, I am very happy. These ice cubes are a little bigger than "dice"-shaped cubes. They hold well in the bin and in drinks. I love them! The machine makes some noise but it is not bothersome and fits in with a busy kitchen. I love the feature that lets you "pause" the ice making for 2, 4, or 8 hours if you need complete silence. The pause feature means I don't have to remember to turn it back on later. I have only done this a couple of times in the seven months we have had the machine, but it's nice knowing it's available when I need it. Overall, I am totally happy with this purchase.

Questions and Answers
Is the machine rated fr outdoor use?
How long will it take for the ice to actually melt in the bin? We are looking to use more for parties and events so it will probably not get used daily. I am concerned the cost of wasted melted water may stack up.
That is really hard to put a finger on because it has to do with the air temperature around the ice maker and the surface areas in contact with the ice. One cube of ice at room temperature has a melt rate of about 15 minutes. If harvest cycles are a concern, I recommend upgrading to a NEO undercounter ice maker from the manufacturer. With those the interface allows you to customize the harvest cycles which will help you reduce waste.
is this machine available at this time and how much lead time for delivery?
Yes this model is readily available and ships within 24-48 hours with a usually 3-4 day transit point.
