Shaved Ice for Summertime Snacks

Hot summer weather brings with it customers looking for frozen treats. Relief comes in many forms; from ice cream to frozen yogurts, many of the classics are a sure-fire hit to pleasing guests. One such frozen treat is shaved ice, and while it’s easy to make and versatile enough to create a wide variety of dessert products, the addition of an ice shaver is often overlooked. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!
If you don’t already have a flake commercial ice machine, then an ice shaver is ideal for turning chunks of ice into finely-shaved slivers that have a lot of surface area and are easy to eat like any other frozen dessert. Caramel Sour Apple Icy-Tini
This recipe is great for a special behind-the-bar menu and can even translate well into the fall season.
Ingredients:
2.5 oz. sour apple schnapps
2 oz. butterscotch schnapps
2 oz. vodka
Ice
Directions:
Place all ingredients except ice in bowl with paddle.
Shave ice on SLUSHIE setting to desired consistency or until large serving ice line is reached.
Serve immediately.
Pomegranate Freeze
Long known as an aphrodisiac, pomegranates are a great addition to any restaurant menu. It’s especially effective with alcoholic beverages to spruce up a romantic date night out at a restaurant.
Ingredients:
6 oz. pomegranate juice
2 oz. raspberry syrup
2 oz. blue raspberry syrup
Ice
Fresh mint for garnish
Directions:
Place all ingredients except ice and mint in bowl with paddle.
Shave ice on SNOW CONE setting to desired consistency or until large serving ice line is reached.
Garnish with fresh mint.
Serve immediately.
Vanilla Latte Slushie
And what better way to mix coffee and dessert than with a shaved ice treat! This recipe strays from the typical fruity ingredients for a more robust after-dinner treat.
Ingredients:
4 oz. vanilla syrup
8 oz. cold, strong coffee
Ice
Directions:
Place all ingredients except ice in bowl with paddle.
Shave ice on SLUSHIE setting to desired consistency or until large serving ice line is reached.
Serve immediately.
